CURATORIAL NOTE

CURATORIAL NOTE

The work, in full.

The work, in full.

Nocturne in Cobalt is built from a high viewpoint that lets the square behave like a vessel of light. The architecture is deliberately anonymous: no landmark fixes the work to one city, and the small figures remain measures of distance rather than portraits.

Dense ultramarine and carbon passages absorb light while amber, ochre, and muted violet accumulate around the central route. The painting rewards a slow change of viewing distance: the square reads first, then the surface begins to separate into scratches, dry pigment, and small glazed marks.

Studio method

The composition is established in thin blue washes, followed by dry layers of wax-rich paint. Lighted passages are built last with opaque pigment so their edges remain physical rather than atmospheric.

Framing options

Supplied in a 22 mm blackened-ash shadow frame. An unframed presentation or museum-glass travel frame can be quoted for project placement.

Conservation

Keep away from direct sun and sources of heat. Dust the frame with a dry soft cloth; the painted surface should only be handled by a conservator.

Transport

Condition report and installation notes are included. The work ships in a custom climate-buffered crate through a specialist fine-art carrier.
